I recently returned from 22 days touring Portugal and Morocco. Both were hot, casual, fascinating and walked me to near death. But I enjoyed every moment. Thanks to TAP Airlines and The Ritz Carlton! The flight on TAP was great - even in coach. The seats were spacious, service was gracious, and the flights were right on schedule. Before I knew it we were landing in Lisbon. I found the airport easy to navigate and my driver was waiting for me right outside the door of the arrival hall. My stay at the Ritz Carlton property, Penha Longa Resort and Spa in Sintra, would be the end to my 19 day tour. Set among the Sintra Mountains, its proximity to the city, coastal areas, mountain, ruins and historical sites makes it unique. The service is impeccable. What great luck I had joining two different delightful groups of travel companions. We were all from North or South America and shared much laughter, excitement, tired feet, photo ops, wine and great meals together. The ruins, historical sites, Medinas, ramparts, castles, forts and sounds of the city, country and river side, and tastes from olive groves and wineries was delightful! I did wine tastings, olive oil tastings, Portuguese tastings - I tasted it all. An unexpected event was rain on the evening of our river cruise on the Doro River. We proceeded to a hilarious Portuguese dinner and entertainment. That was one of the highlights of the trip. Ruiz, our guide, was just outstanding. He made some of our most challenging experiences fun! Love you Ruiz wherever you are! Morocco was my fantasy vacation. I had always imagined being met at the airport in Casablanca. My dream was fulfilled by my wonderful, handsome driver, who met me with a big smile. I enjoyed seeing the diversity of people; a melting pot of Africa and Asia, topography so diverse, standing on the other side of the Atlantic ocean from home. I missed the opportunity to visit the desert on a camel back safari, but that is my reason to return. In many places it was as if time stood still centuries ago. In the Medinas and souks, life is on stage and totally unrehearsed. Marrakech was all I thought is would be and at night time it comes alive!! You may see me wearing my Moroccan caftan or jumpsuit and my soft comfy leather slippers, or my original Portugal cork 'safari' hat or handbag! I just couldn't resist the desire to shop! One of the most beneficial things to me was the diversity of accommodations; Riad, hotel, resort, Boutique lodge, and tents. Both countries offer that diversity. We are able to plan this trip for you as one or two different tours, non-stop from Miami, and at a price that fits modest to luxury budgets.
